FOOLIO
Character Design

2021

PASSION PROJECT

For a personal project, I took the sketch on character design/story FOOLIO, creating a small cast that reflects both the aesthetic direction of our team and my own personal inspirations. I approached the characters as if they lived in a world shaped by current 2025. A present era I chose with current fashion, color palettes, and lifestyle trends I’ve always found visually exciting.

I drew heavily from Y2K fashion: metallic fabrics, chunky accessories, glossy textures, and the mix of futuristic and playful streetwear that defined the time. That aesthetic guided everything from the silhouettes of the characters’ outfits to the overall vibe of their personalities. I wanted them to feel stylish and expressive, as if they belonged in a world where fashion is just as important as function. The era’s influence also shaped my color choices; I leaned into bright neons, holographic gradients, and saturated pastels to give each character a distinctive, trendy look.

This project gave me a chance to merge nostalgia with creativity, blending my fascination with retro-futuristic Y2K trends and the needs of a modern animated narrative. Designing characters in this style let me experiment, exaggerate, and tap into a sense of fun while still being intentional about visual storytelling.
